As a postgraduate researcher, Tim focused on skin structural work, specifically concentrating on tissue engineering and modelling and the measurement of biomechanical forces produced by single cells during tissue scar formation.
Having completed four years as an academic researcher, Tim went on to work as a research scientist for Mars Inc., designing and evaluating nutritional specifications for dogs and cats at the Waltham Centre for Pet Nutrition.
Tim’s other achievements include working with the Royal Veterinary College to use ultrasound for the detection of flow mediated vasodilation, endothelial dysfunction, and cardiovascular disease in dogs.
During his last five years at Waltham, Tim was site IP manager. His responsibilities in this role included maintaining appropriate IP awareness, patent searching, liaising with patent agents, coordinating patent protection policy and effectively implementing the global IP strategy of Mars Inc., around the hub site.
In June 2008 he moved to work with Adamson Jones as a trainee patent attorney where he gained extensive experience handling prosecution of UK, European and International patent applications, preparing infringement and validity advice, patent searching, instructing foreign associates and client communications. Tim’s time at Adamson Jones reinforced his passion for patents and intellectual property that he had developed at Mars and encouraged him to sit and pass the foundation exams towards becoming a patent attorney. However, Tim recognised during this time that the adversarial aspect of being an attorney did not appeal to him as much as the technical aspects. His current role satisfies his scientific nature and allows him to make use of his considerable patent experience.
